Concept for a Monster Hunter print featuring a sexy lady who just killed a big nasty beastie. :D It’ll be from a specific game but I can’t remember which one, left the info at home.
My best friend, Ekqo, has a fantasy story going on called “The King’s Demon”. I am totally excited to see the story and I even asked at one point to do some writing, but was flatly rejected (which is understandable).
But she didn’t say anything about songs. ;) I was at work, bored out of my mind and suddenly I was struck with inspiration. I was motivated by the “Misty Mountain” song in the Hobbit trailer and the fact that Ekqo recently answered some deep questions about her story! So here we go!
(NOTE: these are Works In Progress, meaning I haven’t finished tweaking them!)
The King’s Demon ( main ballad sung by male bards)
They say it came
O’er the mountains High
Our lord’s own spectre
Born of blazin’ sands
To render men’s hearts
Asunder
Our clever king
used his steel wit
Tricked that demon
an unholy knight
By its chained hands
our land is free
Only by its hands
we are free
Dark Morning Star (sung by female bards)
Dark morning star
Eclipse our shining lord
Raise your bloodied sword
Take all of our scars
The sands birthed you
The sun fathered you
O heartless Shade
Rise, for our king
Your master above all
Demands your existence
Rise, Dark Morning Star
Eclipse our beloved lord
Defend him, heartless shade
Raise your bloodied sword!

MY. GOODNESS. I’m gonna have to type this in Word first. @ A @ Before I start a little disclaimer: I may not reveal everything. 8)
1.) Tell a bit about a main protagonist and a main antagonist? If your story doesn’t really have “good guys and bad guys”, tell about two characters with opposing viewpoints!
Ok so logic dictates that if this guy is known as the “Bachelor” in a story called “The Bridal Trials” then that must mean this poor sap is the guy getting the bride. Except he isn’t really a poor sap, he’s actually the prince of a small but wealthy kingdom who needs a bride only to take the throne from his pa. There’s no one really interesting so the council and the king took it upon themselves to revive a somewhat old tradition called the bridal trials, and I’m sure you can deduce what that means.
Anyway, Mr. Bachelor is a pretty intelligent guy who wants to continue his father’s cleaning up of HIS father’s mess and making the kingdom super duper prosperous. The Bachelor is a clever guy with a touch of arrogance, but he’s not very fond of taking risks and leaving things to others.
2.) Does [character] have any siblings?
Nope.
4.) What are some of [character]’s hobbies or interests?
He has a pet goat that’s been with him since childhood. The kingdom’s secret weapon is their goats so no one really finds it strange to see it wandering the palace, lol. He likes to breed her and raise her babies, then sell them when they’re old enough. He also likes to draw, though not as much as he used to and his abilities are definitely far from a master’s work anyway.
5.) Is [character] lucky in love? Can you describe any of their past relationships?
He’s had a few girlfriends, but no one really stuck to him. He’s pretty focused on his goals, and usually the girls don’t factor into them the way they should, be it their poor personality or just them being too clingy.
7.) What are [character]’s pet peeves?
I’m not willing to dig this deep yet and I have a feeling these might come into play later, so I’m zipping my mouth on this.
8.) If you had to pick three words to describe [character], you would choose:
Arrogant, fluffy [hair], entrepreneur.
10.) Is there anything you can talk about from [character]’s childhood or younger years that was significant to their development?
Mmmm, all I’ll say is that his grandfather nearly ruined the kingdom and his mother nearly killed his father who is now paralyzed below the waist. One day I’ll have a character with a happy set of parents LOL
11.) [Character]: Truth or Dare?
Truth. He’s not a risk-taker.
20.) Tell about a significant location in your setting - it can be a city, a country, or even a specific venue, home, etc.?
OH GOODNESS HERE WE GO. I’ve actually thought quite a bit about Iunasia, the country this takes place in. I’ll, uh, keep it brief though.
Its really small, about the size of…-flips open map- About the size of Korea, or even just South Korea. They’re situated at the base of a long and thick mountain range, the main city being in almost like a cove of mountains. They’ve cultivated the slopes of the mountains with grass for miles, and the mountains are filled with little goat farms tucked away. For the most part, though, Iunasia is more widely known for the ores and gems found in the mountains, and Iunasia does do some mining. Ask a villager what they’re known for, though, and they’ll say goats. Lol.
There’s not much I can say, actually, without drawing a picture of what the place looks like. Because of the mining, there are plenty of artisans and merchants in the city. The arts are important to the culture, and most people endeavor in some art form. In front of the main city is a village, which retreats within the city’s tall gates for safety, and off to the side of the village is the army’s bunker, which the back of is connected via mountain tunnel to the city for easy protection.
22.) Do you have a favorite place in this world? It can, again, be a city, country, specific building, or anything else!
The main city? 8D; Seeing as how the story will mostly take place there and I haven’t developed it enough yet to have any more specific places than “army bunker” and “palace.” Lol.
27.) Does social hierarchy play a huge role, i.e. cliques, clubs, clans, or other specific groupings or separations of people?
Omg, yes. I spent an evening work shift writing out details about the country’s women. 8D But, I won’t get too into that, that’s too much to type, haha. But it’s called the Bridal Trials, that means there’s gonna be some catfights, lol.
28.) Is clothing or fashion (whether individual or regional) ever used to convey important information about a person or place?
YES~. In fact, there are two things of importance to this country: long hair for both genders, and the displaying of one’s back, also for both genders. For the long hair bit, I took that from what, Japanese culture? For the back bit, I made that up, but the point is that one’s life is shown on one’s back. Both will come into play with the Bride [meaning, the female main character].
33.) What holidays are celebrated here?
Goat Day. Just kidding, I don’t know yet.
35.) How about religious or spiritual beliefs?
I haven’t thought much on this just yet, but maybe a toned-down and more relaxed version of Catholicism? In terms of having priests, people who dedicate themselves to God, etc. There’s a priest on the council but he holds equal standing like the rest. Teehee, the council is a group of old men, but they’re a fun group…
36.) Is there a specific time period this story takes place in?
A fictional one? I don’t know what time period to relate it to, sorry. orz
38.) Do you conduct lots of research for this setting, is it some place you are already familiar with, or is a vague enough locale to not require much background?
So far I’ll probably have to do some research into goats, maybe some mining, and I need to look up military ranks, as the army will be somewhat important seeing as how the Bride character is a soldier. Other than that, a lot of things are inspired by other fictional works, which I’ve seen/read long ago enough not to remember specific titles of.
